Jo Inge Bekkevold is a senior advisor and researcher at the Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies. His research focuses on Chinese foreign and security policy, Asian security, and geopolitics.

Jo Inge Bekkevold

Jo Inge is a former career diplomat in the Norwegian Foreign Service with several postings to China and East Asia. He was head of the IFS Asia Programme from 2011 to 2018. He learned Chinese language at Peking University in the early 1990s, and later worked as a market advisor in China. While living in China, his favorite activity was to hike the wild parts of the Chinese Great Wall.

Among his most recent writings in Foreign Policy are 'The Cost of Ignoring Geopolitics', 'Trump Remakes the Security Order', and 'The New U.S. Arctic Strategy Is Wrong to Focus on China'.
