Security Policy in Asia II (SPA II) is a three-year research project and a continuation of Security Policy in Asia I (SPA I) at the Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies (IFS), led by Professor Øystein Tunsjø.
With contributions from a broad range of international partners, the project aims to generate knowledge on the following topics:

Consequences of increased cooperation between China and Russia
China’s use of composite instruments
Security policy factors related to China’s relationship with Europe and the EU
Security policy implications of China’s ‘Belt and Road Initiative’ (BRI)
Geopolitical and security policy developments in the Pacific region
Maritime security challenges and the buildup of military capacity in Asia
The implications of China’s growth for European security policy and NATO
