Rebekka Åsnes Sagild is an associate professor at the Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies (IFS), where she is head of the Centre for International Security. Her research focus on Chinese domestic and foreign policy, in particular the relationship between China and Russia and Chinese elite politics.
Sagild holds a PhD in Modern China Studies (Chinese politics) from the University of Oslo (2022). She has previously been a guest researcher at CRESPPA in Paris, NIAS in Copenhagen, and Max Planck in Berlin.
Her research has appeared in journals such as Journal of Contemporary China, China Perspectives and International Affairs. Recent publications include 'Concerned, but not impressed: China eyes NATO's engagement in the Asia–Pacific', co-written with Henrik Stålhane Hiim, in International Affairs, 'Polar Power Play? Sino-Russian Collaboration in the European Arctic' for CSIS, and 'Chinese Re-Examinations of Russia? The 'Strategic Partnership in the Wake of Russia’s War Against Ukraine', co-written with Christopher Weidacher Hsiung.
